In Her First Interrogation Session, Egyptian TV Presenter Boussy Shalaby Denies Forgery Allegations Filed by Mahmoud Abdel Aziz’s Sons

In the first session of the official investigation, the Public Prosecution in Egypt’s Sixth of October City listened to the testimony of media figure Boussy Shalaby regarding a legal complaint filed against her by Mohamed and Karim, the sons of late iconic actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz. The two accused Shalaby of falsifying official documents and falsely claiming she was still married to their father, despite an alleged divorce dating back to 1998.

The prosecution concluded the initial session, which lasted approximately two hours, and decided to release Shalaby pending further investigation.

Background of the Complaint

According to the complaint submitted by the late actor’s sons, Shalaby had presented official documents—including a national ID, family registration record, and passport—that allegedly indicated she remained married to their father until his death. Mohamed and Karim Abdel Aziz firmly rejected these claims, asserting that their father’s only officially registered marriage was to his known wife, and that no subsequent marriage had been legally recorded.

They proceeded to file a case accusing Shalaby of “forging official documents,” a charge punishable under Egyptian law by fines or imprisonment, depending on the severity of the alleged forgery.

Boussy Shalaby’s Testimony

Boussy Shalaby appeared before the prosecution as a defendant and categorically denied the accusations. She asserted that all documents she submitted were accurate copies obtained from official entities and that she had no intention of committing forgery.

Her legal representative, Counselor Haidi El-Fadaly, stated that "proof of marriage is not limited to paper documents, but also includes testimonies from those who witnessed their nearly 20-year relationship." El-Fadaly added that investigations are still ongoing, and the prosecution remains the sole authority to decide the case’s outcome.

Testimony of the Late Actor’s Sons

Mohamed and Karim Abdel Aziz also gave their statements to the prosecution, emphasizing that the documents provided by Shalaby do not align with the official civil registry records of their father. They maintained that no second marriage had been recorded following their father’s 1998 divorce.

The brothers claimed that Shalaby’s allegations have harmed their late father’s reputation and affected the dignity of their family, prompting them to pursue legal action to protect their family’s legacy.

Prosecution’s Decision and Next Steps

The Public Prosecution released Boussy Shalaby after completing the initial testimonies, including those of the complainants, while confirming that the investigation remains open. Authorities will continue to collect evidence, hear additional witnesses, and obtain relevant records from official government entities.

Officials clarified that Shalaby’s release is not an indication of case closure but a procedural step to allow both parties to submit further documentation and witness accounts.

Public Reaction and Legal Ramifications

The case has sparked widespread attention on social media and within the entertainment industry. Public opinion remains divided—some see the accusations as a smear campaign against the presenter, while others call for a clear legal resolution to protect the integrity of family records.

TV presenter Lamees El Hadidi weighed in during her show, criticizing the statement issued by Mahmoud Abdel Aziz’s sons as “petty” and citing testimony from individuals close to the couple who affirmed their longstanding relationship.

What’s Next?

The prosecution is expected to gather additional documents and obtain official reports from the Civil Status Authority and other relevant governmental bodies to verify the authenticity of Shalaby’s submissions. A new session may be scheduled to hear more witness statements and legal arguments from both sides before the case is referred to court for a final ruling.
