Sofia Fawakhri expressed her frustration with the recent rumors about her alleged marriage to Bashar al-Assad and the publication of a fake marriage certificate. She posted on her official Facebook account: "I swear, it's laughable. I'm usually serious, but I can't help it, can you be noble for once? Can you discuss ideas without attacking honor, which only those with complexes about it would do? Can you take your minds out of the bedroom?"
She added: "The last time, you made a mistake about a marriage document where you mentioned the sect field, and in Syria, we didn't have a sect field. I don't know if that's changed. People laughed at you, but it's okay, you learned, and today it's the third mistake! It's not hard to get a regular birth certificate, very easy." She also clarified: "My birth in the official papers was three days after my actual birth, on 1.8.1977, which is the day of the Syrian and Lebanese army holiday. My father, may he rest in peace, is named Mohammad, not Mohammad Saleem, and my father's project was in Saliba, in box 65. I see myself in it. And all the love to our people in Sanktouri, I’m from all of Syria, in case you want to correct it, oh geniuses and scholars. But the contract is invalid, thank God."
Fawakhri continued: "And most importantly, where is the divorce paper? These details should be available to you who fear God." She confirmed at the end: "I have not divorced, and I will not divorce, if God wills. God protect my husband, my family, and everyone. Shame on you, and that's it. Take care of the country and the people; they deserve attention more than me, right?"
Sofia Fawakhri didn't just clarify things; she also criticized those spreading the rumors, stating that spreading lies benefits only those creating discord. She noted that the attempts to tarnish artists' reputations affect not just the individuals involved but also the reputation of the arts and society in general. She mentioned that she wouldn't respond to such lies constantly because she prefers to let time reveal the truth. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of responsibility in news reporting and called for the media to be more accurate in sharing information. In conclusion, she affirmed that she would continue her artistic career independently, away from these baseless rumors.
