The Nasr City Court of Appeal is preparing to hold its first session on April 14 to review the appeal submitted by the defendant in the defamation case involving actress Berlenty Foaad, after a first-instance court issued a ruling fining him 10,000 EGP.
Earlier, the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court had convicted the defendant of insulting and defaming the actress through social media platforms, relying on technical evidence and official investigations that confirmed the validity of the accusations.
The court’s reasoning indicated that reports issued by relevant authorities, along with security investigations, strongly supported the charges without ambiguity. It also noted that the defendant had prior criminal records, which reinforced the conviction.
The court further stated that the defendant did not attend the trial sessions; however, this did not prevent the issuance of the verdict, as it was based on documented evidence, witness testimonies, and the court’s discretionary authority in evaluating facts.
On her part, actress Berlenty Foaad expressed her appreciation for the judicial ruling via her social media account, confirming her intention to pursue a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation to protect her rights and restore her reputation.
