Interior Ministry Reveals Details of Police Impersonation Case

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a man accused of impersonating a police officer affiliated with the Community Protection Sector and claiming that he could arrange the release procedures of inmates at rehabilitation and correction centers.

The security authorities identified and arrested the suspect. Investigations found that he worked as a nurse at an unlicensed addiction treatment facility and lived within the jurisdiction of Old Cairo Police Department.

Suspect Allegedly Defrauded Inmates’ Families

According to the Interior Ministry, the suspect allegedly used his false police identity to deceive the families of inmates at rehabilitation and correction centers.

He reportedly claimed that he could help complete the procedures required to secure the release of their relatives and demanded money in exchange for his alleged services.

After receiving the transferred funds, the suspect would reportedly turn off his phone and cut off communication with the victims.

Suspect Admits Seven Similar Incidents

During questioning, the suspect admitted that he had operated several social media pages to target the families of inmates and deceive them into believing that he could arrange their relatives’ release.

He also confessed to carrying out seven incidents using the same method, according to the Interior Ministry.

Legal Measures Taken Against the Suspect

The necessary legal measures were taken against the suspect following his arrest and questioning over the alleged impersonation and fraud incidents.

The case comes as Egyptian security authorities continue efforts to combat fraud, impersonation of official identities, and schemes targeting citizens through false claims of being able to complete government procedures.
