Prosecution Appeals Acquittal of Suzy Al-Ordonia in Family Values Case
The Public Prosecution has appealed the acquittal of Suzy Al-Ordonia by the Economic Court on charges of violating Egyptian family values through social media content.
The competent court has set December 24 as the date to hear the Public Prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of Suzy Al-Ordonia, who was previously accused of violating Egyptian family values through her online content.
The Economic Court had earlier sentenced Suzy Al-Ordonia to one year in prison and a fine of EGP 100,000, in addition to confiscating the seized items, for allegedly misusing social media platforms and sharing content deemed inconsistent with societal norms. However, the ruling was overturned on appeal, prompting the prosecution to file a new appeal seeking to reinstate the conviction.
In its reasoning, the court noted that the defendant had previously faced similar charges for posting videos “contrary to public decency,” yet continued to publish content undermining social and moral values. The court described her behavior as a violation of public ethics and responsible media conduct.
The ruling also highlighted that the defendant used her accounts, particularly on TikTok, to generate profit through content deemed unethical and inconsistent with Egyptian traditions, calling for legal measures to curb such online practices.
The December 24 hearing is expected to draw significant public attention, reigniting discussions about the limits of online freedom and the responsibility of digital content creators in Egypt.
