The Al-Azhar International Center for Fatwa described the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum as an inspiring achievement highlighting the brilliance of Egyptians across eras and a call to preserve cultural heritage as a sacred responsibility.
Al-Azhar emphasized that Islam views past civilizations and artifacts with reflection and contemplation, urging believers to ponder God’s signs and the fate of nations, citing the Quran: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent.'" [Al-Ankabut: 20]
The center noted that it is the duty of Egypt’s generations to safeguard this legacy and contribute their creativity, morals, and knowledge, honoring the past and fulfilling responsibilities toward the present and future.
Al-Azhar affirmed that the Grand Egyptian Museum is not merely an archaeological edifice but a platform for innovation and creativity, a source of inspiration for generations, fostering confidence in their abilities and encouraging the creation of a future worthy of Egypt’s glorious civilization, based on the highest standards of craftsmanship and architecture, aligned with religious and national responsibilities, in accordance with the divine command: "It is He who created you from the earth and settled you therein." The statement concluded by highlighting that the museum sends a message to the world that material architecture is complemented by spiritual and moral development, and that Egypt continues its pioneering path in serving humanity and protecting its eternal heritage.
