Renowned broadcaster Ahmed Shobeir has once again stirred speculation regarding the future of Palestinian striker Wissam Abu Ali, despite his official transfer to Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew — a move that ranks among the most expensive in the club’s history and has captured the attention of football fans in recent weeks.

Speaking on his television program, Shobeir hinted that Abu Ali’s departure from Al Ahly might not mark the final chapter between the player and the Cairo-based club. “People think Wissam’s page is closed — but that’s not the case,” he said. “The page is still open. Nothing is impossible in football. It’s very possible that the player won’t find his comfort there, and if that happens, the doors could reopen.”
+Shobeir emphasized that Al Ahly does not permanently close the door on any player, especially when the relationship is built on mutual respect and professionalism. “Wissam is a talented player. The club saw great potential in him. And if the right circumstances arise, it’s entirely possible Al Ahly might look at him again. We’ve seen similar stories many times before,” he added.

The veteran journalist noted that Abu Ali possesses a strong personality and the ability to adapt, but also faces a significant challenge as he begins a new chapter in a football environment vastly different from the Egyptian league — from playing style to fan culture to the psychological pressures and expectations. All these variables, he said, make success in the U.S. anything but guaranteed.

For his part, Wissam Abu Ali shared a heartfelt message with Al Ahly fans, expressing deep gratitude for his time with the “Red Fortress.” His words revealed a strong emotional bond with the club that may leave the door ajar for a future return — if fate permits.

Posting on his official Instagram account, Wissam wrote:

“To the great Al Ahly fans, the time has come to write the hardest message of my career. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who supported me — especially Captain Mahmoud El Khatib and the board of directors, who always stood by me, in good times and bad.”

He continued:
“I’m honored to have played for a club of Al Ahly’s stature. I learned so much, both professionally and personally. Al Ahly isn’t just a team — it’s a remarkable institution that teaches everyone who enters what commitment, determination, and ambition truly mean. At Al Ahly, I learned what it means to win, and to fight until the last minute. That spirit will stay with me no matter where I go.”

Abu Ali concluded:
“I’m grateful for every moment I spent among you, for every cheer and every word of support. Thank you for your love — you’ll always be in my heart, and I hope you remain at the top, always.”

His message carried a sincere and profound tone, revealing a deep emotional connection with the club and its supporters — a connection that could pave the way for a reunion in the future, in a football world where nothing is ever truly final.
