Farida Seif El-Nasr: Some Stars Have Turned into Clowns on TikTok
Farida Seif El-Nasr calls for banning artists from going live on TikTok and sparks renewed controversy over her statements on hijab and turning sixty.

Actress Farida Seif El-Nasr issued a strongly worded appeal to the Actors’ Syndicate and relevant authorities, urging them to take firm action against what she described as “an offense to art and artists” in response to the spread of what she called “inappropriate” live-stream videos by some actors on TikTok.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Farida expressed deep frustration over how some actors have portrayed themselves on the platform, stating:
“Those who’ve turned it into begging… cursed is the money that degrades the soul. The real disaster lies in those who already have fame and money but still demean themselves with cheap videos full of vulgar gestures. Where is the syndicate? A true artist, even if hungry, never gives up their dignity.”She emphasized that these actions pose a threat to the public perception of art, arguing that individual behaviors are tarnishing the profession’s legacy and turning respected artists into objects of mockery. She called for clear regulations to prevent such conduct that “does not befit the history of Egyptian art.”
Farida added:
“We are artists… not clowns on shallow apps. The image built over years of talent and respect is being destroyed in seconds by a few live streams.”
Separately, and amid rising controversy, Farida once again made headlines—this time over remarks about hijab during a TV interview on the program “Weshak Makshouf” with presenter Hagar Halim.
In the interview, she said:
“I hope to wear the hijab again, may God help me. But I think I’ve passed that stage. Once a woman is over sixty, there are Islamic rulings that say she may remove the hijab. That’s not my opinion—it’s based on scholarly interpretations.”Her comments sparked widespread criticism on social media. Some viewed it as a misrepresentation of hijab as a lifelong act of worship, while others defended her, pointing out that such jurisprudential views do exist in Islamic texts.
This isn’t the first time Farida Seif El-Nasr has stirred debate with her religious or social opinions. She has long been vocal on public matters—from her takes on hijab to her strong stances on artistic and intellectual issues.
Amid all the controversy, Farida remains one of the few artists unafraid to speak her mind—regardless of the backlash or ongoing debates her views may provoke.
