As part of ongoing efforts to support young talents and enhance cultural momentum, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, held a productive meeting with prominent screenwriter Medhat El-Adl to discuss ways to develop the “Ebda’a” competition—one of the most important official platforms for discovering young talents in the fields of arts and culture at Egyptian universities and institutes.
The meeting addressed new proposals to broaden participation in the competition and elevate the quality of artistic and cultural content. These efforts align with the state’s vision to foster creativity among youth and motivate them to present original ideas that reflect their reality and aspirations.

As part of upcoming artistic plans, preparations are underway for a grand musical-theatrical production showcasing a selection of the finest songs by the legendary Umm Kulthum. The performance is scheduled to be presented next September and will feature a group of outstanding talents who excelled in previous editions of the “Ebda’a” competition.
The play will also feature the Youth and Sports Ministry’s orchestra, highlighting a commitment to merging high art with young capabilities to deliver an integrated theatrical experience that combines authenticity with modernity.
Developing “Amateur Theater” and Supporting Serious Arts
The Ministry is currently restructuring and developing the “Amateur Theater” competition to become a broader platform for discovering new talents in acting, directing, stage design, and playwriting. This initiative is part of a general approach to support serious arts and empower youth to express themselves freely within thoughtful creative frameworks.
The Minister emphasized that these initiatives are in line with the state’s vision of building a cultured and aware generation, equipped with tools for artistic and cultural expression, and providing institutional platforms that allow them to unleash their talents in an atmosphere of support and appreciation.
Legal Action Against Mahmoud El-Leithy Over “Ya Msaharni”
In a related context, the Society of Authors, Composers, and Publishers, headed by Dr. Medhat El-Adl, announced that it has begun legal proceedings against popular singer Mahmoud El-Leithy for what it described as a violation of intellectual property rights involving the song “Ya Msaharni.” The song is one of the most iconic works by the late musician Sayed Mekkawy, with lyrics by the renowned poet Ahmed Rami.
The Society stated in an official release that what occurred constitutes a clear legal violation and will not be overlooked. It affirmed its commitment to defending the rights of its members through all available legal means to preserve Egypt’s artistic heritage and protect the rights of creators.
