A Sudden Explosion at Mohamed Ramadan’s North Coast Concert: Deaths and Injuries Amid Panic
An explosion at Mohamed Ramadan’s North Coast concert results in death and injuries.
On the evening of Thursday, July 31, 2025, under the summer sky of Egypt’s North Coast, Porto Marina’s concert stage shimmered with joy and excitement during a performance by artist Mohamed Ramadan—until a tragic and unforgettable moment shifted the entire scene. As fireworks were launched as part of the show, a sudden explosion occurred due to a technical malfunction in the gas cylinder powering the fireworks system. The blast sent fiery shrapnel across the stage and into the crowd.
Panic swept the venue, with screams echoing as people fled in fear. Emergency and fire response teams arrived within moments, swiftly extinguishing the flames and preventing a larger disaster. The concert was immediately canceled, and a controlled evacuation began to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Tragically, the explosion claimed the life of 23-year-old Hossam Hassan Abdel Qawy, a fireworks technician who suffered severe burns at the blast site. His passing left a deep void and widespread sorrow. The injured sustained various burns, cuts, and fractures. They include:
* **Abdullah Ali Hamdy (20)**: brain hemorrhage and a deep facial wound
* **Zein Atef Zein (20)**: surface injuries and scattered bruises
* **Essam Ahmed Ali (21)**: suspected fracture in the right hand
* **Mohamed Khaled Saad (25)**: severe chest pain and bruising
* **Abdullah Hamad Abdullah (18)**: laceration on the left hand
* **Abdelrahman Hossam (15)**: chest pains requiring thorough medical evaluation
All were transferred to Alamein Model Hospital, where they received the necessary medical care. Their conditions gradually stabilized, and they were discharged after recovery.
Public reactions were mixed. Mohamed Ramadan released an official statement attributing the explosion to a technical fault in the gas cylinder, denying any criminal or malicious intent. He expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of his colleague and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. However, he later sparked controversy by suggesting the blast was “an attempted assassination,” likening the sound to a bomb explosion. He eventually retracted and deleted the post.
Concert organizer Yasser El-Hariry clarified that his company had contracted a licensed fireworks provider, and the explosion resulted from a technical error on the part of that company. He confirmed full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
The Alamein Public Prosecution moved quickly, launching a full inquiry. Investigations included interviews with the injured and eyewitnesses, reviews of security camera footage, reports from the fire and medical teams, and sending the deceased’s body to forensic medicine for examination before handing it over to his family.
In a compassionate gesture, Mohamed Ramadan visited the injured in the hospital to check on their well-being, leaving only after confirming their stability. As of now, no official visits have been reported to the victim’s family.
The digital community was flooded with grief and sympathy. Social media users mourned Hossam, prayed for the injured, and called for a thorough investigation to ensure public safety and stricter regulations for large-scale events. Many also praised Ramadan’s conduct during the chaos, particularly his decision to stay on-site until the audience had safely exited.
Investigations continue with full seriousness to uncover all technical and administrative details. Authorities have pledged to implement stricter safety measures to prevent such painful incidents in the future and are closely monitoring all updates.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of rigorous safety standards in public events and the ongoing need for vigilance to protect lives and uphold safe environments in mass gatherings.
