Accountability Documentary Screening in Amman Highlights the International Criminal Court's Fight for Global Justice
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, will host a special screening of the documentary film "The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court" on July 15, 2026, at its outdoor theatre in Jabal Amman.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pamela Yates, the 95-minute documentary follows the work of the first Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, and his legal team as they investigate some of the world's most complex cases involving war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
The documentary explores investigations in Uganda involving leaders of the Lord's Resistance Army, cases against warlords in the Democratic Republic of Congo, justice efforts in Colombia and the landmark genocide charges brought against former Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir over the Darfur conflict.
The film also highlights the unique challenge faced by the International Criminal Court: pursuing justice without possessing its own police force, relying instead on international cooperation and political support to execute arrest warrants and enforce legal decisions.
Through rare behind-the-scenes footage and detailed legal discussions, the documentary presents an exceptional view of how international justice institutions operate and the obstacles they face in holding perpetrators accountable.
