Egyptian actor Mahmoud Basheer has passed away after a long struggle with illness, according to a statement by Monir Makram, a member of the Egyptian Syndicate of Artistic Professions. In a post shared on social media, Makram wrote: “May God have mercy on him… my brother and friend, actor Mahmoud Basheer… after a battle with illness.”

The announcement did not include details about funeral or memorial arrangements, but the news quickly spread across the artistic community, prompting condolences from colleagues and fans who remembered his contributions to Egyptian television.

Born on March 9, 1950, Mahmoud Basheer built a career that spanned several decades and included significant roles in major Egyptian dramas. Among his most notable works are the classic series “Lan A’eesh Fi Gelbab Abi” (1996), “Hadith Al-Sabah wal-Masa” (2001), “Al-Layl wa Akheroh” (2003), “Abbas Al-Abyad Fi Al-Yom Al-Aswad” (2004), and “Aho Dah Elli Sar” (2019).

Basheer was known for his versatility, portraying a wide range of characters from social figures to dramatic roles, earning him respect within the industry and a special place in the memories of viewers.

His death represents another loss for Egyptian art, especially at a time when the industry continues to honor the legacy of veteran artists who shaped the golden era of television.
