Actress Elham Shahin and media figure Hala Sarhan have arrived in Cairo after their return from Iraq was delayed due to the closure of Basra Airport, following recent security tensions in the region. Their visit, initially planned for a shorter duration, was extended until safe travel could be arranged.

The two were in Iraq upon an official invitation to attend an international women’s festival held under the patronage of the Iraqi Prime Minister. The event hosted influential female figures from across the Arab world. During her stay, Elham Shahin met with the First Lady and the Speaker of Parliament, praising the hospitality and excellent organization.

Elham Shahin’s Statement
Shahin expressed gratitude for the experience despite the challenges, noting the care and attention shown by Iraqi officials during the delay. She stated, “We were treated with great generosity, and the state was very attentive. When the airport closed, the Prime Minister’s Office stayed with us until our departure. What made things easier was the wonderful company of Hala Sarhan—she’s a lifelong friend, and it was an unforgettable adventure.”

For her part, media personality Hala Sarhan described the experience as special despite the circumstances. She said, “Despite the tensions, we took part in an exceptional event that brought together female media figures from the Arab world, organized by Dr. Nebras Al-Maamouri—a remarkable model of the ambitious Iraqi woman. I’m happy to be back in beloved Egypt.”

The pair were part of an official artistic and media delegation invited to attend cultural and media events in Iraq. However, due to security concerns, flights were temporarily suspended, causing a delay in their return. Nonetheless, both women described the trip as rich with meaningful experiences and sincere emotions—especially in the moment they finally returned home.
