Egyptian screenwriter Amr Mahmoud Yassin has defended the Egyptian national football team following its historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32, describing the achievement as one that deserves celebration rather than criticism.
Yassin Calls for Respecting Egypt's Achievement
In a post shared on Facebook, Yassin criticized attempts to downplay Egypt's success, stressing that the expansion of the tournament to 48 teams does not reduce the value of the team's accomplishment.
He noted that Egypt advanced from a highly competitive group where every team fought hard for qualification.
World Cup Success Is Earned on the Pitch
Yassin emphasized that FIFA rankings do not guarantee success at the World Cup, pointing to previous tournaments where top-ranked nations suffered early eliminations while lower-ranked teams exceeded expectations.
Praise for Egypt's Players

He highlighted that Egypt finished second in the group with five points, level on points with the group leaders, demonstrating the team's consistency and strong performances.
Message to Supporters
