BTS Ticket Scalping Scandal Sparks Investigation
As the highly anticipated comeback of BTS approaches, authorities in South Korea have launched an investigation into suspected illegal resale of concert tickets related to the upcoming event near Gwanghwamun Square.
Excitement is reaching new heights among K-pop fans worldwide as BTS prepares for its long-awaited comeback. However, the massive demand for tickets to the upcoming comeback event linked to the album ARIRANG has also sparked a growing problem: illegal ticket scalping.
To address the issue, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially requested an investigation from the Korean National Police Agency after discovering multiple suspicious resale listings online.
🔎 Large-scale monitoring reveals suspicious listings
Authorities conducted intensive monitoring of online resale platforms and second-hand marketplaces. During the process, they identified 1,868 suspected scalping posts, many of which appeared to violate official ticketing policies.
The policies for the BTS event clearly state:
• Only one ticket per person
• Tickets are non-transferable
⚠️ Investigation into high-price resales
Officials referred four major cases involving 105 tickets for police investigation. These cases allegedly involve individuals purchasing multiple tickets and attempting to resell them at significantly inflated prices.
🎟️ Identity checks may block entry
Event organizers emphasized that strict identity verification procedures will be implemented at the venue, meaning fans who purchase tickets from unauthorized sellers may ultimately be unable to attend the event.
⚡ Warnings issued to fans
Organizers urged fans to purchase tickets only through official channels, warning that buying from scalpers can lead to:
❌ Ticket fraud
❌ Seller disappearance after payment
❌ Denied entry due to identity mismatch
Authorities also noted that the announcement of additional ticket releases could lead to a surge in fraudulent resale listings, prompting requests for ticketing companies and online platforms to quickly remove policy-violating posts.
🤖 Macro programs under scrutiny
Another growing concern involves the use of automated macro programs that allow certain individuals to secure large numbers of tickets within seconds, creating unfair advantages over ordinary fans.
💬 Strong remarks from the Culture Minister
Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young strongly condemned these practices, stating that ticket scalping disrupts the fair distribution of concert tickets and exploits fans’ genuine love for popular culture.
He emphasized that the government will continue taking decisive actions to eliminate ticket scalping and ensure a fair concert-going environment for fans.
As the release of ARIRANG approaches and anticipation grows globally, authorities are working to ensure that true fans—not scalpers—get the chance to experience the historic comeback event.
