Dar Al-Kutub Explores Music in Naguib Mahfouz’s Cinema
In celebration of Naguib Mahfouz as the 2026 Book Fair Icon, Dar Al-Kutub hosts a cultural symposium examining the role of music in the cinematic adaptations of his works 📚✨.
Dar Al-Kutub wa Al-Watha’iq Al-Qawmiyya is set to host an enlightening cultural symposium titled “Music in the Cinema of Naguib Mahfouz” 🎬🎶, highlighting the intersection of literature, cinema, and music in the works of Egypt’s Nobel laureate. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s ongoing efforts to celebrate Egypt’s creative icons and coincides with Mahfouz’s recognition as the 2026 Book Fair figurehead 📚✨.
The symposium will be held under the patronage of Dr. Osama Talaat, Chairman of Dar Al-Kutub, and will feature a distinguished panel of academics and specialists:

The session will be moderated by Rasha Ahmed, Director of the Music Hall at Dar Al-Kutub. It will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Ali Mubarak Hall, exploring the symbiotic relationship between music and cinematic drama in Mahfouz’s film adaptations, and how it enriches the expression of his literary and humanistic visions ✨📖.
Participants will delve into the aesthetic and emotional dimensions of musical scores in key films inspired by Mahfouz’s novels, analyzing how composers translate narrative tension, character emotions, and social context into soundscapes that elevate the storytelling experience 🎼🎥.
