🎬 Don’t Breathe 3 Is Finally Moving Forward
Fans of the Don’t Breathe horror franchise have a major reason to get excited as the series prepares for a third installment.
Ten years after the release of the original movie, filmmaker Fede Álvarez revealed that a screenplay for Don’t Breathe 3 exists and confirmed that Jane Levy and Stephen Lang are returning.
Levy is expected to reprise her role as Rocky, while Lang returns as Norman Nordstrom, better known as the Blind Man.
The announcement came during a special 10th-anniversary screening of the original film at Beyond Fest in Santa Monica, where Álvarez appeared alongside several members of the original cast and creative team.
😱 Rocky and the Blind Man Are Back
Jane Levy's return is particularly significant because Rocky did not appear in Don’t Breathe 2.
In the 2016 original, Rocky was one of three young burglars who believed they had found an easy target when they decided to break into Norman's isolated home.
They believed his blindness made him vulnerable.
Instead, they discovered that Norman could use his exceptional hearing, physical abilities and detailed knowledge of the house to turn the entire building into a deadly trap.
Rocky eventually became the central survivor of the first movie.
👁️ Who Is Norman Nordstrom?
Stephen Lang's Norman Nordstrom became one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise.
The movie's central concept was built around reversing the audience's expectations.
Norman's blindness initially appears to make him vulnerable, but his other senses and knowledge of his surroundings allow him to hunt the intruders.
The house becomes a maze where darkness and silence work in his favor.
That approach helped Don’t Breathe stand out from conventional horror films and created much of the tension that defined the original movie.
🔥 What Happened in the First Movie?
The original film follows Rocky, Alex and Money as they plan what they believe will be a simple robbery.
Their target is Norman, a blind Gulf War veteran living alone.
Once inside the house, however, the group realizes they have underestimated him.
The robbery quickly turns into a fight for survival.
Rocky must find a way out while Norman hunts the intruders throughout the house.
The first film ends with Rocky escaping with her younger sister and the stolen money, while Norman survives, leaving the door open for future encounters.
🧩 What Happened in Don’t Breathe 2?
Released in 2021, the second movie shifted its focus toward Norman and introduced a different chapter in his life.
The story followed Norman as he attempted to protect a young girl named Phoenix while confronting people connected to his past.
The sequel therefore presented a more complicated version of Norman, moving him away from being a straightforward villain.
Rocky's absence from the second film makes her confirmed return for the third installment particularly important.
👀 What Could Bring Rocky and Norman Together Again?
The official story details for the third movie are still being kept secret.
That means there is currently no confirmed explanation for how Rocky and Norman will meet again.
Could Rocky return to confront him?
Could a new threat force them into an unexpected alliance?
Could the story take place years after the events of the second movie?
Or will the new film reveal what happened during the years between the previous installments?
For now, these remain unanswered questions.
✍️ Fede Álvarez Has Written the New Script
Fede Álvarez played a major role in establishing the identity of the franchise.
He directed the original movie and worked with Rodo Sayagues on its screenplay.
Sayagues later directed Don’t Breathe 2, while Álvarez remained involved as a writer and producer.
For the third installment, Álvarez has confirmed that a screenplay exists.
However, it has not been confirmed that he will direct the movie himself.
The director of the upcoming installment also remains unclear.
🎭 Will Alex Return?
One of the biggest questions surrounding the cast concerns Dylan Minnette, who played Alex in the original.
Minnette attended the 10th-anniversary event alongside Álvarez, Levy and Lang, but his return for the third movie has not been announced.
At this stage, Jane Levy and Stephen Lang are the confirmed returning stars publicly associated with the project.
Additional casting details remain unknown.
📅 When Will Don’t Breathe 3 Be Released?
There is currently no confirmed release date for Don’t Breathe 3.
There is also no officially announced production start date.
What has been confirmed is that the project is in development, a screenplay exists and Jane Levy and Stephen Lang are returning.
That means fans may have to wait for further announcements before knowing when the movie will actually enter production or reach theaters.
💰 The Franchise's Box Office History
The original Don’t Breathe became a strong commercial success after its 2016 release.
The movie earned approximately $157 million worldwide against a reported production budget of around $10 million.
The 2021 sequel earned approximately $53 million worldwide.
The first film's financial performance helped establish Don’t Breathe as a notable modern horror franchise, while its unusual premise and tense home-invasion structure helped it remain recognizable years later.
🔥 Ten Years Later, the Story Continues
The return of Jane Levy and Stephen Lang brings the franchise back to the two characters who defined the original conflict.
Rocky and Norman represent two completely different sides of the story, and bringing them together again creates a new opportunity for the filmmakers to explore their unfinished history.
For now, the story remains tightly guarded.
But one thing is clear:
🎬 Don’t Breathe 3 is happening in development.
👁️ Jane Levy is returning as Rocky.
😱 Stephen Lang is returning as Norman Nordstrom.
✍️ Fede Álvarez has confirmed that a screenplay exists.
And the biggest question remains:
