Today marks the birthday of Doulot Abiad, one of Egypt’s greatest stage actresses and a pioneering figure in classical Egyptian arts 🌟.

Born Doulot Habib Boutros Qasabgi on January 29, 1896, in Assiut, Egypt, to a Russian mother and an Egyptian father from Upper Egypt working as a translator in the Sudanese Ministry of War, she grew up between Cairo and Khartoum. She attended a French nuns school in Khartoum, where her artistic talents began to shine, performing in Arabic, Italian, and English, long before realizing she would become a theater legend 🎭✨.

Her professional journey began in 1917 after being discovered by actor Aziz Eid at a family gathering. She debuted in “The Countess”, followed by “Watch Out for Emily” and “Wedding Night”, achieving remarkable success from her first performances, opening doors to Egypt’s major theatrical troupes 🏛️.

Doulot later joined Naguib Al-Rihani’s troupe, then George Abiad’s troupe, whom she married in 1923, forming one of the most iconic theatrical duos. She toured with prominent theater groups to Syria, performed in “Scheherazade” with Sayed Darwish’s troupe, and appeared in major plays including “Ria & Sakina”, “Louis XI”, “Othello”, “Father Lebonard”, and “Cleopatra”.

With the founding of the Egyptian National Troupe in 1935, she starred in acclaimed plays such as King Lear, Samson and Delilah, The King’s Fool, The Sacred Flame, and The Miracle, before resigning in 1944 ✨.

She entered cinema in 1930 and became a legendary figure among the mothers of Egyptian cinema, appearing in around 30 films including Zeinab, The White Rose, Always in My Heart, and They Wronged Me, My Loved Ones. Two of her films were selected among the top 100 Egyptian films: “The Teenagers” with Magda and “Empire M” with Faten Hamama 🌟🎬.

💡 Why celebrate her on Facebook?
