Historical Egyptian Connections to the Black Sea

Studies indicate that the first contacts between Ancient Egypt and the Black Sea coast likely began in the early first millennium BC.

Egyptian-style amulets discovered in Greek colonies such as Chersonesus Taurica, Olbia, Apollonia Pontica, and Mesambria reveal the early development of trade and cultural relations between Egypt and these regions.

Following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and the rise of the Ptolemies in Egypt, some Egyptian rituals spread from the Nile Valley to the Eastern Mediterranean, reaching the Black Sea coastal regions, where Alexandrian and Greek elements were incorporated, facilitating their wider dissemination along trade and cultural routes.

This exhibition serves not just as a display of artifacts, but as a cultural and historical bridge, illustrating the exchange of knowledge, religion, and beliefs between Ancient Egypt and the Black Sea region over millennia.
