Egyptian Opera to Celebrate Farid al-Atrash on Thursday
The Egyptian Opera prepares a series of tribute concerts honoring the legendary musician Farid al-Atrash, featuring selections of his most famous works.
The Egyptian Opera, led by Dr. Alaa Abdel Salam, is set to commemorate the late musician Farid al-Atrash with a special concert by Abdel Halim Noweirah’s Arabic music band, conducted by maestro Ahmed Amer. The event will take place at 8 PM on Thursday, November 27, at the Grand Theater 🎶.
The concert will feature iconic works of the “King of the Oud,” including “Halat Layali,” “Ya Sa’a Bel Waqt Agra,” “Ahlef Lek Ma Tesadda’esh,” “Ma Enharmesh,” and “Layali Al-Ons,” performed by Mohamed Hassan, Mostafa El-Nagdy, Hossam Hosni, Rehab Mataw, Walid Haider, and Somaya Wagdy.
The Opera will also host multiple performances across Cairo, Alexandria, and Damanhour throughout December to honor Farid al-Atrash, one of the greatest Arab singers and composers. He began his artistic career after moving from Syria to Cairo with his mother, Princess Aliaa Bint Al-Mundhir, and siblings Fouad and Asmahan. Farid starred in 31 films, performed lyrics from renowned poets like Ahmed Rami and Akhtal Al-Saghir, and composed music for artists including Asmahan, Shadia, Fayza Ahmed, and Sabah.
Farid al-Atrash passed away on December 26, 1974, at the age of 64, leaving behind a timeless musical legacy that continues to enrich the artistic scene in Egypt and across the Arab world.
