A video showing Syrian singer El Shami shaking hands with Lebanese artist Nancy Ajram at the Joy Awards sparked widespread debate on social media, due to the cautious manner in which he approached the gesture, appearing to respect her personal space.

Addressing the controversy on Instagram, El Shami clarified that the gesture was symbolic respect and a normal protocol. He said:

“It was a symbolic respect gesture to avoid crossing the artist’s personal space, as this was our first official meeting in a formal setting. Protocol-wise, the gesture was completely natural from both sides, and there is no need to exaggerate.”

📌 El Shami emphasized that the main goal was to maintain respect and proper etiquette, especially since it was their first official encounter, making any exaggerated interpretation unnecessary.
