Actor Fathy Abdel Wahab spoke about the details of his character “Hamada Koshary” in the series Zolm El-Mastaba, which aired during Ramadan 2025, noting that he enjoyed portraying the role without making a moral judgment on it. In an interview with TV presenter Lamees El Hadidi on her ON TV show Kalema Akheera, he said he loves all the characters he plays but prefers to leave character judgment to the audience rather than prejudging them himself. He added, “If I judge a character morally, I won’t be able to portray it properly, as that could affect my performance. That’s why I leave the judgment to the viewers.”

When asked about the nature of “Hamada Koshary,” Abdel Wahab described the character as a representation of a “cultural male genetic imprint,” explaining that Hamada was raised to believe he is always right and incapable of being wrong. Despite the violent nature of the character, Abdel Wahab clarified that he is far from such behavior in real life. He said, “Violence isn’t in my dictionary. I’m a very peaceful person, and I deeply respect women. They are half of society — if society were a body, women are its essential half.”

Regarding filming locations, Abdel Wahab said they had a significant impact on his portrayal, especially the mall scene, which he described as a perfect place reflecting Hamada’s personality. He noted that locations help him immerse more deeply into the role, making him feel like he is part of the events rather than just playing a part.

Abdel Wahab also touched on his perspective on money, stating that money is not a source of happiness for him but rather a means to achieve life goals. He emphasized that real happiness comes from inner satisfaction and meaningful accomplishments, not from wealth.

On trying to please others, Abdel Wahab admitted it is a major challenge for him. He said, “Trying to please everyone is terrifying because everyone has different expectations, and sometimes you find yourself stuck between conflicting demands.” He explained that he’s set personal boundaries in this area to avoid disappointment or frustration.

He fondly recalled the influence of key figures in his career, such as actor Mohamed Sobhi, from whom he learned discipline and punctuality in theater work, even when disagreeing with something. He also praised Adel Imam, saying he had the biggest impact on his artistic path, especially when it came to respecting scripts and working as part of a team. “Adel Imam influenced my career the most. I learned so much from him — particularly the importance of honoring the script and collaborative work,” he said.

Most recently, Abdel Wahab starred in the series Zolm El-Mastaba, which aired during Ramadan 2025. The plot centers around “Hassan Abdel Wadoud,” who returns from Libya to his village “Itay El-Baroud” only to discover that his friend “Hamada” married his former love “Hind” and is exploiting the influence of his brother Sheikh “Alaa,” escalating tensions between characters. The series, written by Mohamed Ragaa and directed by Mohamed Ali, featured a strong cast including Riham Abdel Ghafour, Eyad Nassar, Ahmed Azmy, Basma, Mohamed Ali Rizk, Diaa Abdel Khalek, Khaled Kamal, and others.

Throughout the project, Abdel Wahab aimed to present “Hamada Koshary” in a way that reflects societal challenges, while maintaining artistic professionalism and authenticity in his performance. He said audience reactions to the character were mixed, which he considers a success, as “the audience is the final judge of any artistic work,” and their engagement with such characters is a key indicator of its impact.

Overall, the character of “Hamada Koshary” was complex and reflected a particular social reality. Abdel Wahab's skillful portrayal brought out its many layers, making it a vivid and realistic character on screen.
