Sarhan explained that she encountered unforeseen circumstances during her stay in Baghdad, where she was participating alongside actress Elham Shahin in the “Women in Media Festival.” However, the sudden security escalation led to the closure of the airspace and delayed their return to Cairo.Despite the situation, Sarhan praised the warm hospitality she received from the Iraqi people, affirming that Iraqis are incredibly kind and generous. She added: “We were treated in the best possible way, from the Prime Minister’s office to Parliament, and we were given full support until we safely returned to Egypt.”
She noted that, despite the difficult conditions, the days she spent in Baghdad were a unique human experience that reflected the depth of Arab relations. Sarhan also mentioned that her meeting with Iraq’s First Lady, Shahinaz Ibrahim Ahmed, was a highlight of the trip, as they exchanged perspectives on the role of educated women in building societies and promoting shared Arab values.Actress Elham Shahin had previously stated that she and Hala Sarhan were on their way back to Egypt but had to turn back due to the airspace closure. She noted that the security situation forced them to stay in the hotel for several days amid growing uncertainty, before finally managing to return home after coordination with the relevant authorities.
Hala Sarhan concluded by saying that the experience she lived through in Iraq will never be forgotten, stressing that the humanity she witnessed there reflects the true spirit of the Iraqi people. She expressed deep gratitude to everyone who helped facilitate their safe return home.
