TV presenter and fashion designer Maha El-Saghir, ex-wife of actor Ahmed El Sakka, has returned to the spotlight and become the subject of public debate and criticism across social media. The controversy erupted following her recent appearance on a special episode of "Ma'akum Mona El Shazly", during which she showcased several paintings she introduced as part of her new artistic journey.

Praise Turns into Backlash Over Alleged Copy
While the episode initially celebrated Maha’s budding talent, it quickly sparked backlash after viewers noticed a striking resemblance—described by some as “identical”—between one of her displayed paintings and an artwork by renowned Danish artist Lisa Lach-Nielsen.
Social Media Uproar
Within hours of the broadcast, social media was flooded with comparison images between Maha’s painting and the original piece. The hashtag #Maha_ElSaghir trended widely, accompanied by critical comments accusing her of copying the artwork without crediting the original artist, thus violating artistic integrity and intellectual property.
Some attempted to defend Maha, citing that she is still a novice in the art world. However, others argued that showcasing art on a popular TV program constitutes a public presentation, which demands professional transparency, especially when the works are not entirely original.

Official Clarification and Emotional Apology
In an attempt to contain the growing criticism, Maha issued an official statement on her social media accounts. She explained that the painting in question was created during a training workshop, as an exercise to learn and replicate well-known artworks for practice—not to be presented as her own original work.
Her initial statement read:
“I’d like to clarify that the artwork shown during the episode was part of a training workshop I attended. The goal was to learn techniques and replicate some global artworks for development purposes—not to claim the work as my own.”
“I hold great respect for artist Lisa Lach-Nielsen and value the intellectual rights of all artists. I apologize for any misunderstanding or misinterpretation caused by presenting the artwork on the show.”

However, as criticism continued to mount, Maha released a more personal and emotional apology, stating:
“I made a mistake. I wronged the Danish artist Lisa, all artists, the platform that hosted me, and most importantly, I wronged myself. Going through the hardest time in my life does not justify what happened. I’m truly sorry and disappointed in myself.”
Ongoing Criticism and Silence from the Show
Despite her public apologies, the backlash hasn’t subsided. Critics remain focused on the fact that Maha did not clarify during the show that the artwork was inspired by or reproduced from another artist. This omission was seen by many as an attempt to pass off the work as original.
Several artists and art critics have weighed in, urging the need for emerging talents to be educated about intellectual property rights and the ethics of showcasing art—especially in today’s digital age where content origin can easily be verified.
Meanwhile, the producers of "Ma'akum Mona El Shazly" have yet to issue any statement or take action, such as removing the controversial clip or clarifying the matter, which many perceive as a failure to address the seriousness of the incident, despite the massive public attention it has garnered.
