Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane puts pressure on Al Ahly's trio... El-Sulaya leads the pack
Ben Romdhane Nears Al Ahly Move, Puts El-Sulaya, Nedved, and El-Sa’i at Risk

Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, who currently plays for Hungarian club Ferencvárosi, is close to joining Al Ahly in a deal expected to be one of the Red Devils' most significant reinforcements at the end of the current season, ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Tamás Hajnal, the sporting director of the Hungarian club, confirmed that the player successfully passed his medical examinations after officially signing his transfer contract with Al Ahly, paving the way for an official announcement in the coming days. Well-informed sources revealed that Al Ahly had sent a representative to Hungary to finalize all administrative and contractual aspects of the deal.
Ben Romdhane has long been a target for Al Ahly, with the club previously entering negotiations during the last summer transfer window. However, the deal fell through due to Ferencvárosi’s high financial demands. Talks resumed recently, and Al Ahly officials successfully concluded the signing after reaching a final agreement with both the player and his club.
With the official announcement imminent, signs of a potential shake-up in Al Ahly’s midfield have started to appear, especially as the performances and participation of some players have declined this season. Karim Nedved tops the list of those whose chances of staying with the team are slim, especially with his contract expiring at the end of the season and no clear indications of a renewal.
Since rejoining Al Ahly last summer from Modern Sport, Nedved has made only 10 appearances across all competitions, totaling just 445 minutes, without scoring or assisting any goals, which has kept him out of the technical staff’s plans for most of the season.
On another front, the future of Amr El-Sulaya with Al Ahly appears uncertain despite his long-standing tenure with the team since 2016. El-Sulaya has been left out of the starting lineup in many matches this season, particularly under Swiss coach Marcel Koller, who has favored players with better physical readiness. Reports indicate that El-Sulaya signed with a UAE-based marketing agency last January, potentially to explore opportunities for a move abroad, as his contract also expires at the end of the season and no agreement has been reached for a renewal.
Meanwhile, newcomer Omar El-Sa’i, who joined from Ismaily in a deal reportedly worth around EGP 50 million, is facing a similar fate. He has failed to secure a regular spot in the team, making only 9 appearances this season with a total of 289 minutes and contributing just one assist.
Ben Romdhane’s arrival will provide the coaching staff with more tactical flexibility and depth in midfield. The Tunisian is capable of performing both defensive and offensive roles, with strengths in building play under pressure, ball recovery, and precise long-range shooting. His addition is expected to intensify competition for places in midfield, which may lead to a re-evaluation of priorities and the possible release of underperforming players.
In light of these developments, a restructuring of Al Ahly’s midfield seems likely in the near future as the club aims to strengthen its squad ahead of upcoming continental challenges.
