Actor Mohamed Emam responded to a request from Dr. Ashraf Zaki, President of the Egyptian Actors Syndicate, by deleting the social media post that sparked widespread controversy over the past few hours regarding the box office competition between him and actor Ahmed El Awady.
The post was removed in an effort to calm tensions after online discussions intensified over the rivalry between the currently screening films "Saqr w Kanarya" and "Shamshon w Dalila."
How the Dispute Between Mohamed Emam and Ahmed El Awady Began
The controversy began after the two actors exchanged social media posts about the films' box office figures.
Ahmed El Awady wrote on his account, criticizing what he described as exaggerated revenue claims:
"I honestly don't know why people inflate box office numbers. They say they made 6 million on the day of the Egypt vs. Argentina match. Were you showing the football match in the cinemas or what?"
Minutes later, Mohamed Emam posted what many viewed as a response:
"Just a small part of yesterday's cinema revenues. I don't know why some people inflate their box office numbers just to appear successful."
Ashraf Zaki Steps In to End the Controversy
As the debate escalated, Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Egyptian Actors Syndicate, intervened and called for an end to the public exchange on social media. Mohamed Emam subsequently deleted the disputed post.
