Mohy Ismail Apologizes for Missing National Theater Festival Tribute Due to Personal Reasons
Veteran Egyptian actor Mohy Ismail has officially apologized for not attending his scheduled tribute seminar during the ongoing National Theater Festival of Egypt. The event was set to take place today at the Supreme Council of Culture within the Cairo Opera House. He cited urgent personal reasons that prevented his attendance, despite his deep appreciation for such honors that celebrate artists who have enriched the cultural scene with their creative contributions.
Previously Honored at the Festival's Opening
Although unable to attend the seminar, Mohy Ismail was already honored during the festival's opening ceremony in recognition of his remarkable artistic journey that has spanned decades across both theater and cinema. His influential presence has made him a revered figure in Egypt’s artistic community.
His Missed Role as Ahmed Zaki in "Al-Batiniya"
In a recent television interview, Ismail revealed that he had once been considered for the role of legendary actor Ahmed Zaki in the film Al-Batiniya. However, a financial disagreement with the producers—specifically over a 1,000 EGP fee—led to his withdrawal from the project. Ismail emphasized that money was not the main issue, stating, "Livelihood comes from God," but acknowledged the financial dispute was the reason for the missed opportunity.
Despite the lost role, he expressed admiration for Ahmed Zaki’s performances and legacy, noting he never felt envy, but rather respect for Zaki’s impactful work. He encouraged younger generations of artists to pursue equally meaningful roles.
Artistic Commitment and Humanitarian Values
Ismail also spoke about his ongoing commitment to artistic excellence, stressing that he continually strives to develop his talent. "I’ve never felt I neglected my craft. I always work hard to grow because art is a great responsibility," he said.
Beyond his career, Ismail dedicates a large portion of his time and resources to helping those in need. He highlighted his charitable efforts, especially feeding the poor, as a central part of his life mission. "Giving is what gives life true meaning," he remarked.
A Lasting Influence on Egyptian Culture
Mohy Ismail’s career is a model of consistency and diversity. His performances have often tackled significant societal and human issues, earning him respect from critics and audiences alike. Known for selecting roles with powerful messages, he also plays an active role in developing the Egyptian theater scene and supporting young talent through workshops and artistic forums.
