Actor Murad Makram shares a heartfelt New Year message with his followers and reports two individuals for defaming him online, highlighting legal procedures and defamation penalties.
Actor Murad Makram addressed his followers on New Year’s Eve through a post on his official Facebook page, writing:
"As long as someone loves you with all their heart, you will never be alone… Happy New Year!" – a message of optimism and love for his fans.
In a separate development, authorities began investigating a complaint filed by Makram against two individuals who allegedly insulted him through social media posts. He reported the matter to Giza Security Directorate against the accounts Dovid vo b and Mohamaed drip, providing evidence of harassment. A police report was filed, investigations are ongoing, and the public prosecutor has been notified.
Under Egyptian Penal Code, defamation carries strict penalties, including imprisonment and fines. To prove defamation, it must be shown that the accused published information about the victim that harms their reputation.
Aggravated penalties apply in certain cases, including:

Defaming public servants due to their work integrity, punishable with fines up to 10,000 EGP.

Defamation via media outlets, where penalties are doubled.

Using personal information about the victim’s family.

Defamation through advertisements such as newspapers, punishable by both fines and imprisonment, with prison terms up to six months in specific cases.
The law aims to protect individual reputations and hold accountable those who commit offenses via digital and social platforms.
