Nadia El Gendy Reveals Why She Sued Former Culture Minister Youssef El Sebai
Egyptian actress Nadia El Gendy has shared the remarkable story behind filing a lawsuit against former Minister of Culture Youssef El Sebai, explaining that the legal action was intended to overturn a ministerial decision limiting film screenings, ultimately allowing her film "Bamba Keshar" to remain in cinemas for an entire year.
During a television interview, Nadia El Gendy revealed the circumstances that led her to file a lawsuit against former Egyptian Minister of Culture Youssef El Sebai.
She explained that, at the time, a ministerial regulation required films to be removed from cinemas after 16 weeks to make room for new releases. However, her film "Bamba Keshar" was still attracting full audiences at Rivoli Cinema, prompting her to seek an exception.
According to El Gendy, she met with Youssef El Sebai to discuss the issue. Rather than granting a direct exemption, he advised her to challenge the regulation through the courts, believing that legal action was the appropriate way to amend the decision.
She followed his advice and filed the lawsuit. The case ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the regulation, allowing "Bamba Keshar" to continue screening in cinemas for nearly one full year, thanks to its continued commercial success.
The actress described the incident as one of the most memorable moments in her career, highlighting how legal action helped change a policy that affected successful films at the time.
