عبد الرحمن أبو زهرة في لقاء صحفي

Ahmed, the son of the esteemed artist Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra, attacked the Pensions Authority after they decided to stop his father’s pension, mistakenly believing that he had passed away. This sparked the family’s outrage and raised questions about the accuracy of the procedures followed by official bodies in such cases.
Ahmed said in a post on his Facebook account that rumors of his father’s death would occasionally appear, and they had grown used to such false news, which initially upset them, but over time they stopped responding to it. However, the real shock came when those rumors were repeated—this time by an official entity—when they were surprised to find that the Pensions Authority had stopped his father’s pension after receiving a notification from the Civil Status Office confirming his death.

Ahmed added that the family sent a representative to inquire about the reason for stopping the pension, and were surprised to find that the authority demanded either the presence of the artist Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra himself or to send a representative to his home to verify that he was still alive. He considered this demand inhumane and inappropriate given his father’s health condition, as well as an intrusion into the family’s privacy.

The son of the great artist emphasized that this incident reflects a flaw in how the elderly are treated, especially someone as prominent and valuable as Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra. He questioned what happens to ordinary citizens who might face similar situations without anyone to highlight their suffering.

He concluded his post by confirming that his father is still alive but currently going through a delicate health period that requires calm and respect—not humiliating procedures that he described as unworthy of an artist with a long history of service to art and culture.
