The Egyptian National Theatre Festival successfully concluded the second presentation of the staged reading "The Other Half of the Road" at Cinema El Hadara Hall in the Cairo Opera House after its remarkable success during the first performance.
The decision to re-present the reading reflected the significant audience interest and highlighted the growing appreciation for contemporary theatrical texts and innovative artistic experiences.
The staged reading initiative is one of the festival's most important cultural projects, designed to support emerging playwrights, revive theatrical literature, and create meaningful dialogue between writers, directors, actors, critics, and audiences.
The play, written by Ahmed Ragai, won the festival's Playwriting Award, while Dr. Ayman Abdel Rahman directed the staged reading using expressive vocal performance and dramatic interpretation to emphasize the script's emotional and intellectual depth.
The event attracted a distinguished audience of theatre professionals, critics, and cultural figures, all of whom praised the initiative for introducing promising theatrical works before their full stage production.
Festival President Mohamed Riyad emphasized that the enthusiastic public response demonstrates the audience's continued appreciation for high-quality theatrical writing. He noted that staged readings provide award-winning scripts with an opportunity to reach audiences and receive valuable feedback before becoming fully produced theatrical performances.
Director Dr. Ayman Abdel Rahman also expressed his satisfaction with the audience turnout, stressing that strong dramatic texts continue to attract theatre lovers. He described staged readings as an essential artistic platform that encourages dialogue and creative development while enriching Egypt's theatrical landscape.
As the festival continues expanding its support for young playwrights and innovative dramatic projects, initiatives such as these contribute significantly to strengthening Egypt's vibrant theatre movement and encouraging future artistic excellence.
