Osama Anwar Okasha remains one of the most influential television writers in the history of Arab drama. Born in Tanta on July 27, 1941, he studied psychology and sociology at Ain Shams University, a background that greatly shaped his unique approach to character development and social storytelling.
His childhood, marked by the loss of his mother at an early age, deeply influenced his emotional writing style, making family, love, and human relationships central themes throughout his works.
His breakthrough came with Layaly El Helmeya, first released in 1987. The series became one of the greatest television productions in Arab history, documenting Egypt's social and political transformations from the monarchy through the late twentieth century while presenting hundreds of unforgettable characters.
Among his most celebrated television works are Layaly El Helmeya, Al Shahd Wal Domou, Al Raya Al Bayda, Zizinia, Arabesque, Al Masrawiya, A Woman from the Time of Love, and Abu El Ola El Bashary's Journey.
Beyond television, Okasha also published notable novels, including Dreams in the Tower of Babel, Sonata for Tishreen, and Heaven of a Madman, reflecting his philosophical and literary vision.
He passed away on May 28, 2010, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that continues to influence writers, directors, and audiences across the Arab world. His works remain timeless examples of storytelling that blends history, society, and humanity into unforgettable drama.
