As part of Egypt’s vibrant cultural and theatrical movement, the Ismailia Theatre Company is set to present two new performances today at El Samer Theatre in Agouza 🎭✨
The shows are part of the third day of the 33rd edition of the Theater Clubs Festival, an important cultural event organized under the umbrella of Egypt’s cultural institutions, aimed at supporting emerging theatrical talent across different governorates.
The initiative provides a platform for regional theater groups to showcase their work in front of audiences and professional juries, helping nurture a new generation of theatrical creators.
The first play, titled "We’re Thinking of a Name", is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Written by Mariam El-Gezaawy and directed by Mahmoud Medhat, the production explores the emotional and professional struggles of theater artists 🎬
The story revolves around an actor, a prompter, and an actress who navigate the challenges of their artistic lives while confronting limited opportunities, financial constraints, and unfulfilled dreams.
The play raises important questions about artistic identity, ambition, and perseverance in the face of hardship. It reflects on what it means to remain committed to art despite the absence of recognition or stable opportunities.
The narrative blends realism with introspection, offering audiences a thoughtful exploration of the meaning behind artistic existence and the symbolic importance of “names” as a representation of identity and legacy 🎭💡
The second production, titled "Side Effect", written by Mohamed El-Souri and directed by Ahmed Helmy, shifts toward a more psychological and social narrative.
It delves into the long-lasting emotional consequences of psychological harm, exploring how fear, isolation, and emotional deprivation shape human behavior and relationships 💔
The characters in the play struggle with internal conflicts that gradually surface, revealing deep emotional wounds and their impact on self-perception and interpersonal connections.
The play suggests that psychological pain does not disappear easily; instead, it creates a lasting “side effect” that alters the way individuals experience life, love, and trust 🧠⚡
Through a layered dramatic structure, the production invites audiences to reflect on modern emotional struggles and the complexities of human relationships in an increasingly disconnected world.
Both performances will be evaluated by a professional jury consisting of theater experts, critics, and directors, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the artistic and technical aspects of each production.
Following the performances, a critical discussion session will take place, allowing creators and critics to exchange insights and analyze the artistic choices behind each play.
This year’s festival features 27 theatrical productions performed daily for free across El Samer and Rod El Farag theaters, continuing until May 25 📅🎭
The Theater Clubs Festival remains one of Egypt’s most important platforms for developing young theatrical talent, encouraging experimentation and innovation in stage performance.
Ultimately, today’s program reflects the diversity and depth of contemporary Egyptian theater, combining artistic struggle with human emotion, and reaffirming the stage as a powerful space for expression and social reflection ✨
