Psychological Thriller "Safe Exit" by Mohamed Hamad Competes at Berlin Film Festival
Safe Exit" explores psychological tension and deep human themes, competing in the Panorama program at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, in a multinational co-production spanning Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Qatar, and Germany
The psychological thriller "Safe Exit" directed, written, and produced by Mohamed Hamad is set to compete at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 12–22) 🎬🔍. Featured in the Panorama program, the film is a multinational co-production involving Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Qatar, and Germany, giving it a rich, diverse international perspective 🌍.
The story follows a young security guard struggling with PTSD after his father is killed by an extremist terrorist group ⚡. The film explores how major events ripple into the ordinary life of an average person, portraying small victories, personal breakdowns, human weakness, and daily heroism 💔✨.
Producer Dorra Bouchoucha highlights that the film "dives into unprocessed trauma carried across generations burdened by violence stemming from their religious identity" 🕊️. Kholoud Saad, another producer, adds: "Working with Hamad again on a human-rights-focused project felt natural, and we are extremely proud of the final result" 🌟.
Mohamed Hamad notes that his company, Pareidolia Productions, aims to create independent films tackling complex social issues rarely addressed in Egyptian cinema, and that Safe Exit examines the beliefs and circumstances that may lead to religiously motivated violence 🔍.
Producer Dina Farouk says: "The film captures the silent aftermath of violence, what lingers after the headlines fade. The trauma is inherited, personal, and profoundly real, and presenting it with such sensitivity is an artistic necessity" 🎥💫.
Founders Alaa Karkouti and Maher Diab commented: "Mohamed Hamad is a filmmaker with a unique voice and rare control over his work. After the international acclaim for Green Dry, supporting Safe Exit was a natural choice. The film is confident, meticulous, and we are proud to accompany it on its journey to Berlin and beyond" 🌟🎬.
Starring Marwan Walid, Noha Fouad, and Hazem Essam, with cinematography by Mohamed El Sharkawy, editing by Dina Farouk, and artistic supervision & set design by Mohamed Hamad and Noura Fawzi. MAD Distribution handles Arab world release, while MAD World manages global sales 🌍.
