As the summer movie season comes to a close, audiences are preparing for the release of legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott’s latest feature, The Dog Stars, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas across Egypt and worldwide on August 27. Blending science fiction with emotional drama, the film promises a character-driven story set in a post-apocalyptic world.

Scott expressed strong confidence in the project, describing it as one of the most significant films of his career. He explained that, unlike many post-apocalyptic productions, The Dog Stars prioritizes its characters and their emotional journeys over scenes of large-scale devastation.

"The film isn't simply about the end of the world as a visual spectacle. It's about people and how they struggle to preserve their humanity in the middle of collapse," Scott said.

He added that although the story belongs to the post-apocalyptic genre, it offers a completely different perspective.

"People may think it's just another survival story after the end of civilization, but we're telling it from an entirely new point of view."

Scott emphasized that his primary goal was to create a film centered on human relationships rather than the catastrophe itself.

"I wanted to make a film about people first. Some of the quiet moments between the characters can have a greater emotional impact than the biggest visual effects or action sequences."

Ridley Scott on Casting and Filmmaking

The Oscar-nominated director also discussed his long-standing approach to casting, explaining that selecting the right actors remains one of his greatest strengths.

"Every film is a journey of discovering yourself and making the right decisions. Before I speak to any actor, I watch everything they've done. One of my greatest strengths is casting, and if the actors are available, I usually get them."

Scott also highlighted his famously fast production schedule, noting that efficiency has become a defining part of his filmmaking philosophy.

He revealed that:

• Napoleon was filmed in 48 days.
• Gladiator II was completed in 51 days.
• The Dog Stars was shot in only 34 days.

According to Scott, the rapid pace gave the production a unique energy.

"It's a rhythm similar to fast television production, but it gave the film a special vitality and realism. The speed kept everyone focused, and everything felt alive in front of the camera."

A Story About Hope After Collapse

Scott concluded by encouraging audiences to experience the film on the big screen, saying that every frame was designed specifically for the theatrical experience.

Set in a world devastated by a deadly pandemic that wipes out most of humanity, The Dog Stars follows Hig, a former civilian pilot living in isolation. After receiving a mysterious radio transmission, he embarks on a dangerous journey in search of other survivors, discovering that hope, trust, and human connection remain possible even after civilization has fallen.

The film stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, and is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Peter Heller, praised for its emotional exploration of survival and loneliness.

Produced by 20th Century Studios and Scott Free Productions, The Dog Stars will be distributed in Egyptian cinemas by United Motion Pictures.
