Egyptian actress Sama El Masry updates her official ID photo, appearing in hijab for the first time, responding directly to public criticism.
Sama El Masry announced that she has updated her personal ID photo, appearing officially in hijab for the first time, stating she is now “officially wearing the hijab according to government records.”
In her Instagram post, she commented: “I am officially wearing the hijab at the government… my ID now shows me as a respectable veiled lady. Respect feels good.” Addressing critics, she added: “You’re the one resembling men because you are not a real man.”
Sama also referenced past criticism over her wearing a traditional Upper Egyptian robe during parliamentary elections, affirming her independence and determination: “If anyone thinks the hijab will silence me or make me tolerate their rudeness, they are mistaken… I respect the hijab, yes, but I have never respected you nor will I.”
Her stance demonstrates her resilience and commitment to expressing herself while responding to negativity with patience and firmness.
