January 26 marks the birth anniversary of Soad Hosny, the legendary Egyptian actress known as the “Cinderella of Cinema.” Born in 1943, she left an indelible mark on the Arab film industry before her passing on June 21, 2001.

Years later, her stories continue to spark interest, revealing a strong personality and a fearless artist who remained at the center of cinematic history.

🎬 Ahmed Mazhar’s Retirement Over a Film Poster

It is said that actor Ahmed Mazhar once decided to retire due to a dispute with Soad Hosny over the order of names on a film poster. She insisted that her name appear before his, which prompted him to consider leaving the industry.

However, the retirement did not last long. Mazhar later returned, opened a car repair workshop, and resumed his acting career. He reunited with Soad in the film “Shafika and Metwally” in 1978 and continued acting until his death.

👊 The Slap That Shook Ahmed Zaki

Actress Yousra revealed a behind-the-scenes moment from the film “The Shepherd and the Women”, describing a scene called “World Pen Day,” where multiple pen hits were required.

She said, “I hit Ahmed Zaki with six pens, and Soad hit him with one.” The impact was so strong that Ahmed Zaki reportedly said his wisdom tooth fell out from the force of Soad’s slap.

This incident reflects the intensity and realism of acting, even when it meant physical pain.

💔 The “Where Is My Mind?” Casting Crisis

During the preparation of “Where Is My Mind?”, the production faced a casting crisis. While Soad Hosny was chosen as the lead, the producers wanted Rushdi Abaza as her co-star.

However, his high fee created a financial dilemma. In a surprising move, Soad Hosny gave up 1000 Egyptian pounds from her own salary to cover the difference, asking the team not to inform Abaza to avoid refusal.

This gesture highlights her dedication to the film and her willingness to sacrifice for the success of the project.
