Sundowns Sets Arrival Date in Cairo Ahead of Al Ahly Semi-Final Clash in CAF Champions League

South African club Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed the date of their squad’s arrival in Cairo ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final against Egyptian giants Al Ahly. The team is set to land in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Al Ahly will host Sundowns on Friday evening, April 25, at Cairo International Stadium in a decisive clash to determine who advances to the tournament final. The first leg in South Africa ended in a goalless draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Sundowns' technical staff opted for an early arrival in Cairo to enhance the players' focus and allow for thorough preparations, aiming to secure a positive result that would see them qualify for the continental final.

The South African side plans to hold three training sessions in Cairo — the first two on Tuesday and Wednesday at a secondary pitch, while the final session will take place on Thursday evening at Cairo International Stadium. This follows CAF regulations, which allow the visiting team to train on the match venue the day before the game.

Sundowns will be banking on their continental experience and strong away performances, especially after a solid display against Al Ahly in the first leg. Meanwhile, Al Ahly will look to capitalize on home advantage and the support of their passionate fans to seal qualification and edge closer to reclaiming the African title, last won in 2029.

The encounter is considered one of the standout fixtures of this year’s competition, given the intense rivalry and repeated meetings between the two clubs in recent seasons.

With high-profile players shining on both sides, anticipation is building for what is expected to be a thrilling battle in Cairo, with the winner advancing to face either Pyramids FC or South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the final — setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion to this year’s Champions League.
