Surprise in Khaled Youssef Case.. Trial of a Media Personality Accused of Insult and Defamation Postponed, Sparking Widespread Controversy
Postponement of Media Personality’s Trial on Insult and Defamation Charges Against Khaled Youssef
The Cairo Economic Court has postponed the trial session of a media personality accused of insulting and defaming the renowned director Khaled Youssef and his wife, the visual artist Shalimar El Sherbini, to May 26th. The case has sparked widespread controversy in artistic and media circles.
The accused, who published on her social media accounts a post containing offensive language and defamatory allegations against Khaled Youssef and his wife, faces charges of insult, defamation, and slander in case number 111 of 2025 Economic Misdemeanors. This prompted the director to file an official complaint against her.
Mostafa Ramadan, the civil lawyer representing Khaled Youssef, confirmed that the temporary compensation demanded by his client reflects the extent of the moral and material damage caused by the offensive post. He emphasized the necessity of holding the accused accountable to protect rights.
The court decided to postpone the session to allow more time to complete the investigations, amid great anticipation of the case's outcome, which highlights the issue of defamation in the media and social networking platforms.
The situation is becoming more intense as the new session approaches, which may be decisive in determining the fate of the accused, amid wide media and public interest, especially with the rise of legal cases related to electronic defamation in Egypt.
This case opens an important discussion about freedom of expression and its limits, and the extent to which individuals bear legal responsibility for their words, especially when it concerns prominent public figures like Khaled Youssef.
