Yasmin El-Khatib sparked wide discussion by commenting on the overreaction of some supporters of the film “El-Set,” a biopic about the legendary singer Umm Kulthum. El-Khatib emphasized on her social media accounts that her issue is not with the film’s quality or origin, but with defenders treating it as untouchable, preventing other viewers from forming their own opinions. She added: “Those who don’t like the film have every right to express their opinion freely, regardless of the overall reception.”

In a formal clarification, Turki Al-Sheikh denied any actual involvement of Riyadh Season in producing, directing, or preparing the film, stating that their role was limited to sponsorship after production completion. He confirmed that the director, writer, cast, and production company are all Egyptian and that the film has all necessary Egyptian licenses, emphasizing that linking Riyadh Season to the production is inaccurate.

“El-Set,” written by Ahmed Mourad and directed by Marwan Hamed, stars Mona Zaki, Said Ragab, and Ahmed Khaled Saleh, with special appearances by Ahmed Helmy, Karim Abdel Aziz, Asser Yassin, and Amr Saad. The film covers key milestones of Umm Kulthum’s artistic and personal life, portraying her journey from early beginnings to becoming the icon known as “Kawkab Al-Sharq,” highlighting her human and social experiences throughout her career.
