Ehab El-Malhy, leader of the “Good Divers” rescue team, announced that four drowning incidents occurred since Friday morning in various locations across North Coast resorts and the city of Alexandria, amid relatively high sea waves and increased beachgoer activity.
El-Malhy explained in press statements that three drowning cases were reported within tourist resorts in the North Coast, specifically in Marina, Seashell, and Zomoroda, while the fourth incident occurred in the Gleem Beach area in eastern Alexandria. He confirmed that search operations are still ongoing to retrieve the bodies, with the cooperation of local residents and volunteers. No official details have yet been released regarding the identities of the victims.
He added that the sea today is experiencing turbulence and a significant rise in wave height, posing a serious threat to people’s safety—especially in non-designated swimming areas or those lacking trained rescue teams. He also noted that some beaches are witnessing violations by vacationers who do not adhere to safety guidelines or swimming time regulations.
El-Malhy pointed out a notable surge in the number of visitors and beachgoers this week, particularly following the end of high school final exams, leading to overcrowding on both public and private beaches, which in turn hampers monitoring and rescue efforts.
In conclusion, El-Malhy issued an urgent plea to the public, stressing the importance of exercising caution, following the instructions of lifeguard teams, and avoiding swimming during unsafe hours or in restricted areas to preserve their lives and safety.
