Tanta Economic Misdemeanor Court in Gharbia Governorate has sentenced a fan of the Kafr El-Zayat Club to six months in prison, with bail set at EGP 20,000, after he was found guilty of committing an obscene act in the stands during one of his team’s matches. The incident involved the fan stripping and performing suggestive dance moves after Kafr El-Zayat scored five goals against Talla Club.**

The case dates back to a video clip that circulated widely on social media, showing the accused wearing only his underwear in the stadium stands during the match—an act that stirred public outrage. The footage prompted security forces at Kafr El-Zayat Police Station to intervene swiftly and apprehend the individual to initiate legal proceedings.

Earlier, the Public Prosecution had released the fan on EGP 1,000 bail pending investigations. Following security reports confirming that the incident constituted a public act of indecency, the prosecution ordered his detention until the full police findings were submitted. These findings indicated that the act was deliberately provocative and in violation of public morals.

**In a separate incident in El-Mahalla El-Kubra**, investigators ordered the release of engineer "Mohamed A."—involved in the case of the child known in media as the “candy seller”—on bail of EGP 500. The child’s father was also released on the condition of a residence guarantee, while the child was placed in a care facility until the case is resolved.

Previously, the prosecution had detained all parties involved in the incident pending a full criminal investigation and mandated a medical committee to assess the child’s condition. The father now faces serious human trafficking charges, and legal measures are underway accordingly.

In connection with the same case, lawyer Rami El-Sheikh—representing the accused engineer—called on the relevant authorities to assign the Cybercrime Unit in Cairo to investigate the identity of the woman who filmed and published the viral video. He argued that the video leak significantly escalated the controversy and fueled widespread dissemination of the story across social media platforms.

Counselor Nevin Wahsh emphasizes that criminal investigations, despite their importance in the initial detection of crimes, cannot be considered fully-fledged evidence in criminal proceedings. Not every piece of information recorded in investigation reports rises to the level of legal proof, and the belief formed by law enforcement officers cannot, on its own, justify a criminal conviction.
