The security forces at the Ministry of Interior successfully arrested a microbus driver accused of physically and verbally harassing a young woman as she was walking through a street in Nasr City, Cairo Governorate. The incident sparked widespread public anger after videos and testimonies circulated on social media platforms.
Incident Details
The Nasr City Police Department received an official complaint from a woman in her twenties, who reported being openly harassed while walking alone in one of the side streets. According to her statement, the suspect, a microbus driver, persistently followed her before approaching and forcibly touching sensitive areas of her body—an act that caused alarm to both the victim and passersby.
Swift Security Response
Based on the details provided in the complaint and under the guidance of relevant authorities, an investigative team was formed to identify the suspect. Through reviewing surveillance cameras in the area and collecting witness statements, the team successfully identified the individual.
The suspect was apprehended in a nearby area and taken into custody for interrogation. He initially denied the accusations, but further investigations and footage from surveillance cameras clearly revealed the events of the incident.
Decisive Legal Action
An official police report was filed, and the driver was referred to the Public Prosecution, which began an investigation and charged him with harassment and disturbing a female in a public space. This comes amid a broader legal push to protect women from physical and verbal assault.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its continued commitment to combating all forms of harassment and dealing firmly with offenders, in order to ensure the safety and security of all citizens—particularly women and girls in public spaces.
