Microsoft is preparing to roll out a completely redesigned OneDrive app next year, featuring AI-powered tools, a modern photo gallery, and smarter sharing capabilities.
Microsoft is set to release a completely new OneDrive app for Windows in 2026, introducing a fresh design and enhanced AI features aimed at improving productivity and user experience.
The new app replaces the old taskbar pop-up window with a fully integrated desktop experience, similar to the mobile version. It includes a modern photo gallery, facial recognition for tagging people, and upcoming support for local photo editing, allowing users to edit directly within OneDrive before saving or uploading.
A major highlight is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) through deeper Copilot support. A new Photo Agent will be available for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Premium subscribers, allowing users to search for specific photos or time periods and automatically create albums.
Mobile users on iOS and Android will also benefit from new AI-based photo editing tools, such as animated image conversion and easy removal of blurry or duplicate photos.
Additionally, a new “Memories” tab and a main sharing link feature simplify file access and sharing, offering an experience similar to Google Docs in ease and flexibility.
With these updates, Microsoft aims to make OneDrive a smarter, AI-driven cloud platform for managing files and photos efficiently across all devices.
