Gamers can look forward to a bold new entry in the Avatar universe in summer 2026: Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. Unveiled at New York Comic Con, the title is being developed by Gameplay Group International.
The debut trailer showcases “pre-alpha” footage of one-on-one 2D hand-drawn combat reminiscent of classic fighters like Street Fighter. Familiar faces from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra will be included. At launch, 12 playable characters are expected, with plans to add seasonal characters later.
A unique “Flow System” combat mechanic emphasizes fluid movement, and players can select support characters to gain special moves. The game will feature crossplay and be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
For those who prefer narrative-driven play, the title will also include a single-player story campaign, tying together lore and characters. Given the developer’s experience in fighting games, there’s strong potential for this to become a standout in the Avatar game franchise
