OpenAI’s latest app, Sora, has taken the App Store by storm, reaching one million downloads within five days of its iOS launch — outperforming ChatGPT’s debut growth rate.
OpenAI launched its new Sora app on iOS on September 30, and within just five days, it achieved a remarkable milestone — over one million downloads, surpassing the early adoption numbers of ChatGPT.
Sora functions like a TikTok powered by artificial intelligence, allowing users to browse a feed of AI-generated 10-second video clips and create their own hyper-realistic content. Built on the advanced Sora 2 model, the app can even use users’ photos to generate personalized video scenes.
Currently, Sora is available by invitation only, as OpenAI aims to make it a social experience for friends to create and share entertaining AI-generated videos together.
However, shortly after launch, the platform became flooded with videos that appeared to violate copyright laws, raising concerns about the datasets used to train the AI and prompting rights holders to call for tighter content controls and transparency.
