Sharp Surge in Egypt’s Gold Market as Global Ounce Nears Historic Levels

Gold prices in Egypt’s local market witnessed a sudden and significant increase today across all carats, coinciding with a strong rally in global gold markets. The price of an ounce surpassed the $3,400 mark, one of the highest levels in recent months.

The increase reached nearly EGP 40 per gram, bringing gold back into focus as a safe-haven investment amid ongoing global economic uncertainty.

Gold Prices in Egypt Reach Highest Levels in Weeks

Local gold prices recorded sharp gains as follows:

• 24-karat gold: EGP 5,371 per gram

• 21-karat gold: EGP 4,700 per gram (most traded locally)

• 18-karat gold: EGP 4,028 per gram

• 14-karat gold: EGP 3,133 per gram

• Gold pound (gineh): EGP 37,600

These strong movements reflect the rapid interaction with global market trends, as gold is priced in US dollars. Any shifts in the global ounce price or dollar exchange rate are immediately reflected in the Egyptian market.

Global Gold Rally Driven by Dollar Drop

On Monday, gold gained 1.4%, supported by a notable decline in the US dollar, which fell by 0.6% against a basket of major currencies. Additionally, yields on US government bonds dropped significantly, further fueling demand for gold.

As gold typically moves inversely to both the dollar and bond yields, it became an attractive option for investors seeking protection from volatility.

During the session, the ounce peaked at $3,401, the highest in over a month, before closing at $3,397.

Tuesday Session Opens with Slight Correction

At the start of Tuesday's trading session, gold prices dipped slightly due to profit-taking activities, which are normal after strong rallies. The temporary stabilization of the US dollar also contributed to a technical correction in gold’s performance.

Analysts from global financial institutions anticipate continued volatility in gold prices in the coming days, with investors awaiting key US inflation data and corporate earnings reports.

U.S. Markets Cautious Despite Record Highs

Meanwhile, US stock markets showed signs of caution despite both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ reaching new record highs in the previous session.

This slowdown is largely due to investor anticipation surrounding the corporate earnings season, as well as developments in global trade and potential upcoming policy decisions by the Federal Reserve.
