The supermoon dominated global search trends after its brilliant appearance across the sky, marking the last event of its kind for the year 2025. Astronomers confirmed that the moon appeared up to 8% larger and around 16% brighter due to its passage through perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbital path.

This alignment occurred when the full moon coincided with a distance of approximately 357,000 kilometers from Earth, placing it within the category of a supermoon. Although the size difference is subtle, the enhanced brightness made it more visually captivating. At moonrise, its disk appeared tinted pink or orange due to atmospheric light scattering, similar to the colors seen during sunrise and sunset.

The supermoon reached full illumination at 2:14 a.m. (Mecca time) on Friday, December 5, offering ideal conditions for observing lunar features such as the bright Tycho crater and its prominent rays. In the following days, the moon will rise later each night until it becomes visible only before dawn, eventually transitioning into the last quarter phase within a week.
