Widespread Praise for the Egyptian Chess Federation for Outstanding Organization of the African Championship


The Egyptian Chess Federation, headed by Major General Mokhtar Amara, received great praise from the delegations participating in the African Chess Championship for men and women, hosted by Egypt with 17 countries participating until next Tuesday. The participants confirmed that the championship is one of the best continental tournaments in terms of organization and services provided in recent years.


Complete Comfort and Outstanding Services for Participants


Heads of African delegations praised the excellent organization, noting that the team led by Dr. Karim Wagih, the tournament director appointed by the International Chess Federation, exerted great efforts to overcome all obstacles and provide an ideal environment for the players. They added that many players from other countries regretted not participating after seeing photos and videos documenting the quality of the organization and the luxurious accommodation provided to participants.


Tournament Success Boosts Egypt’s Chances to Host International Championships


The delegations confirmed that the success of the African Championship opens wide prospects for Egypt to host more continental and international tournaments. They highlighted the great cooperation from the Egyptian Chess Federation board members, led by Major General Mokhtar Amara and George Samir, the federation’s vice president.


Egypt’s Selection Was Carefully Made to Promote Sports Tourism


Major General Mokhtar Amara, federation president, said that Egypt was chosen to host the championship due to its proximity to important tourist landmarks such as the new Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids, giving delegations a chance to enjoy a part of Egypt’s rich heritage, aligning with the state’s vision to promote tourism.


Support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to Ensure the Championship’s Success


Major General Mokhtar Amara expressed thanks to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, for their full support which contributed to the success of the championship. He considered this support as strengthening Egypt’s position in organizing major sports events, noting that the coming period will witness important surprises for the chess community that will be announced soon.


Participation Details and Participating Countries


Seventeen African countries are participating in the championship, including Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan, Libya, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, in addition to Egypt, the host country.


Competition Schedule and Rest Days


The competition continues until next Tuesday, with matches resuming tomorrow (Saturday) from 5 PM to 11 PM after a rest day dedicated to sightseeing. The competition continues on Sunday and Monday from 5 PM, with the closing ceremony scheduled for Tuesday at 6 PM.


Egypt’s Team Roster in the Championship


Egypt is represented by 10 players (5 men and 5 women): Basem Amin, Ahmed Adly, Adham Fawzy, David George, Hamed Wafa, Shorouk Wafa, Shahenda Wafa, Joy Romany, Jana Mohamed Zaki, and Dima Alaa. Additionally, about 25 Egyptian players are participating in the individual competitions.
