As part of the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts to monitor violations that threaten road safety and security, security forces have uncovered the details of a recent incident that sparked widespread controversy. A citizen had filed a complaint reporting that the driver of a pickup truck was driving in the wrong direction on the Katameya–Ain Sokhna Road, resulting in a direct collision with his private vehicle and causing significant damage.
Following the complaint, the relevant authorities launched an investigation and successfully identified the vehicle in question, which was found to belong to a food distribution company. Security forces were able to apprehend the driver, a resident of the Nasr City First Police Department district in Cairo.
During questioning, the driver admitted to driving in the wrong direction, claiming he was trying to take a shortcut. He stated that the collision was unintentional and occurred because he was surprised by the oncoming vehicle traveling in the correct lane.
The vehicle responsible for the accident has been impounded, and all necessary legal actions have been initiated against the driver in preparation for his referral to the relevant prosecution authorities.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and curbing dangerous behaviors on the roads. It emphasized that the safety of citizens is a top priority and that no leniency will be shown toward actions that endanger lives and property.
